Wings

Insect wings are located on top of the thorax. They vary in size, shape, texture, venation, and in the position they are held at rest. Most insects have two pairs of wings, some have only one pair and some are wingless.

Although most insect wings are membranous (thin and like cellophane) some are thickened or leathery; many are covered with hair or scales.
