The majority of insects develop by complete metamorphosis. The young of these insects look completely different than the adult. Often they live in different habitats and may have different habits than the adult (for example, caterpillars feed on leaves while butterflies feed on nectar). Larvae undergoing complete metamorphosis generally have chewing mouthparts even if the adult form has sucking mouthparts.
