On
the rear underside of the abdomen at the tip most spiders have 6 fingerlike
structures called spinnerets which spin silk. The shape and form of the spinnerets
are key characters for identification.
In
review, when submitting a spider for further identification, include digital
images that illustrate the number and arrangement of the eyes, shape of the
carapace and the form of the spinnerets. An image of the tarsal claws or a note
of the number present (2 or 3) should also be submitted.
